Even a seemingly terrible natural event can have a beneficial impact. For example, the former hurricane Elsa, now a tropical storm, has caused destruction along its path. Currently, it’s in Maine and the rain is torrential. But it is recharging our water table and lessening our drought condition.

This type of storm can also provide other positive outcomes. Sometimes, such a storm can disrupt a toxic red tide. (A red tide is harmful algae bloom in the ocean that can trigger a potent toxin in certain shellfish.) Other times, the storm winds facilitate the dispersal of some plant species onto new lands. Further, strong tidal waves can reshape habitats by moving and depositing sediment.
Doesn’t it seem like every natural occurrence or creature has a purpose that contributes to the greater whole?
